Skaters Test ‘Synthetic’ Ice Surface On Site Of New Red Wings Arena

Sitting in the space where the ice rink is planned to go in the new arena — scheduled to open in 2017 — is a synthetic ice surface which will give fans a chance to experience the Ilitches’ vision for the site.

New Red Wings Arena Details Expected; Ilitches Want Ground Breaking By End Of Year

The public could soon find out more information about the proposed arena, as officials with Olympia Development are expected to meet with the Detroit Planning Commission this week.
