A fatal shooting in San Francisco is prompting Michigan lawmakers to propose legislation aimed at cracking down on cities they suspect of harboring immigrants who are in the country illegally.
“Let’s send a message to the entire world: Detroit, Michigan, is open to the world,” Gov. Snyder said.
“I think today I am newborn.”
The conspiracy included housing and feeding the immigrant workers.
Michigan’s secretary of state reversed course Friday and said her agency will issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, changing her mind after the Obama administration clarified the issue.
Michigan “should let them drive so we don’t drive them away” to other states, attorney Miriam Aukerman said.

A new campaign is underway to bring better understanding of immigrants who are making Michigan their new home.
Michigan authorities say they arrested six illegal immigrants from Mexico at a construction site after one called 911 to request an ambulance for a ride.
“Your award of citizenship or being denied citizenship could be made at random,” said Winke, who led a study in which 414 citizens and noncitizens took two mock citizenship tests based on questions asked by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
