The U.S. Coast Guard says a 656-foot freighter that ran aground in a shipping channel of Lake St. Clair has been freed and is en route to Montreal.
Two more tugs are scheduled to arrive on scene and attempt another refloating.
“It doesn’t take a deep body of water to have a tragedy,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.
Macomb County dives teams are searching Lake St. Clair for a boater, missing since Monday night.
Water levels in Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior are at least a foot higher than they were a year ago.
The boat will make regularly scheduled runs every two hours and the best part — it’s all free.
So many people stopped to photograph the waterspout, police were called in to help direct traffic.
