It’s a first of a kind case in the state of Michigan.
Quagliata and Lucaj are charged with second-degree murder in the death of a man when their two cane corso dogs mauled a man while he was jogging.
A veterinarian told a Lapeer District Court judge that she warned the couple that the two cane corsos “were very aggressive” after they tried to bite her during a routine examination.
The dogs have been in custody along with eight puppies, which will be offered to an animal rescue group.
Defense attorney Michael Sharkey says the charges are “merely an allegation” and “will be resolved by a trial.”
A fire in Lapeer has caused major damage to several businesses in the downtown area of the city.
The lead singer of rock group The Calling claims he had a gun put to his face while an attacker demanded his “Hollywood money.”
The child told him he was on his way to get the car fixed — because his dad had bumped into something earlier that day.
Grid Logic, a technology company located in Lapeer, has been awarded a $3.8 million grant through the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy of the United States Department of Energy. To support Grid Logic’s federally required cost share, Detroit-based NextEnergy, the state’s renewable energy industry accelerator, has selected Grid Logic as the first recipient of its MATch (Michigan Accelerating Technology) Energy Grant.
