Wayne County Jail
There will not be a jail built at the closed State Prison on Mound Road on Detroit’s east side.
Prosecutors say the trio lied to the county commission with regard to the status of the building of the jail.
Sources tell WWJ the incident happened sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Thursday.
The head of the M-1 rail project is denying claims that a contractor lost out on work as a result of being caught up in the failed jail debacle.
“M-1 chose to begin negotiations with another contractor to avoid being subjected to public criticism. So now, many of the jobs and revenues are going to out-of-state contractors instead of staying in state.”
With the clock ticking down to the Nov. 5 election, mayoral candidates Mike Duggan and Benny Napoleon met in their second forum at the Detroit Economic Club where they talked of crime, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr and moving into Manoogian Mansion.
One person will have the say as to whether there was criminal activity over the $91 million cost overrun of the Wayne County Jail.
Kym Worthy wrote to the county auditor Willie Mayo that information he supplied her led to an investigation of possible fraud in the project.
The unfinished downtown Wayne County Jail is in limbo.
With construction suspended for running millions over budget, Wayne County Exec Bob Ficano is now recommending walking away from the downtown Detroit jail project.
