Best Bars With A College Night In Detroit


Wondering where to go in the Metro Detroit area after you have finished class for the day? Check out these local bars that offer the best special amenities to college students. All offer drink specials and some feature deals on food as well. Most of the bars in the area have DJs spinning live music, trivia games where you can challenge your friends to a meeting of the minds and pool tables for the competitive co-eds.

Tuesdays are College Nights at Tiki Bob's in Pontiac, and the bar touts this weeknight as "a wild spring break party." Doors open at 9 p.m., and there is no cover charge for ladies until 10:30 p.m. and specials include $2 Miller Lite all night. In keeping with the collegiate theme, Bob's also hosts Frat House Fridays' happy hour party with $1 Miller Lites, MGDs and well drinks and free appetizers. If you roll in with the largest party, you'll even receive free prizes. For added fun and entertainment, take a ride on the mechanical bull, shoot a game of pool or shake it on the dance floor.

Coaches Corner Bar and Grill hosts a special College Night every Thursday starting at 10 p.m. There is no cover charge to get in if you remember to bring your college ID. Entertainment includes a live DJ spinning hits and rowdy games of beer pong. Take advantage of budget-friendly drink specials like $1 shots and $1 beers. Coaches Corner also has a shuttle with pick-up and drop-off at Wayne State Campus, so you don't have to worry about getting home safely. The shuttle runs every half hour from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.

College Night runs every Tuesday at Pontiac hotspot Tonic Nightclub. This club has a revolving door of celebrities who drop by while they are in town, and Tonic has been known to host the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Black Eyed Peas, Shaquille O'Neal and "Jersey Shore's" The Situation. Doors open at 9 p.m. and there's a special $2 cover until 11:30 p.m. if you bring your college ID. All ladies get in for free until 11 p.m. Specials include $2 drinks until midnight and DJ Matt L spinning live.

Get your friends together on Thursdays for Necto Nightclub's College Night. Doors open at 9 p.m and everyone 18 and older is welcome, but ladies are free before 11:30 p.m. with a college ID. From 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., specials include half off drinks, shots and bottled beer. DJ Hardy spins top 40 in the main room.

Lefty's Lounge doesn't exactly have a designated College Night, but if they did it would be Wednesdays. Starting at 9:30 p.m. each Wednesday, Lefty's features live trivia with no charge to participate. This Midtown sports bar serves up specials that include $2.50 well drinks, $3.50 long islands, $3 shots, and a one-topping medium pizza for $5.99.
