Looking for a delicious frozen drink to unwind with after a hot summer day? Check out this list for the best frozen drinks in the metro area, including some non-alcoholic varieties.
Sagebrush Cantina
28 S. Broadway
Lake Orion, MI 48362
(248) 693-0100
www.mysagebrushcantina.com

Sagebrush Cantina has two locations, in Lake Orion and in Fenton, and it prides itself on having the largest selection of tequila in the metro area (over 20 brands and more than 50 varieties). Its frozen margaritas are legendary, and you can choose from premium, house or flavored served frozen. Flavors include strawberry, raspberry, mango or melon, with Midori liquor. If tequila isn’t your thing, the restaurant also has ice cream cocktails such as the Grasshopper (Creme de Cacao, Creme de Menthe and vanilla ice cream), the Toasted Almond (vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream, amaretto, and vanilla ice cream) and more.

Uptown Grille
3100 E. West Maple Road
Commerce Township, MI 48390
(248) 960-3344
www.uptowngrille.com

The Uptown Grille has an extensive drink menu, so it’s no surprise that many of the drinks offered are frozen. Choose from margaritas, daiquiris, coladas or smoothies (non-alcoholic), with flavors that include strawberry, raspberry, banana, mango, pina colada and ice cream. If you plan on ordering a margarita, go on a Monday when they are half-off. Uptown also offers several flavors of blended frappes, from “Extreme Toffee” to “Chocolate Decadence,” as well as the Hummer, Bushwacker and Mudslide ice cream drinks. If you’re a Nutella fan, don’t miss out on the restaurant’s Nutella Shake (Nutella, cocoa, sliced bananas and strawberries, with ice cream).

The Oakland
201 W. 9 Mile Road
Ferndale, MI 48220
(248) 291-5295
www.theoaklandferndale.com

The Oakland is located in downtown Ferndale (9 Mile near Woodward) and is known for its handcrafted cocktails. The bar has a few frozen drinks, including the “I Wanna Be Evil” with bourbon, muddled strawberries, lime juice, serrano-honey vinegar, Pedro Ximenez and Turbinado syrup. Happy hour is 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and includes $5 handmade cocktails. The Oakland’s atmosphere aims to emulate “20th century speakeasy elegance and contemporary design elements,” and seating at the restaurant is on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations). However, call-ahead seating for up to an hour before you arrive is both acceptable and encouraged.

Cafe Muse
418 S. Washington Ave.
Royal Oak, MI 48067
(248) 544-4749
www.cafemuseroyaloak.com

One might be surprised to find Cafe Muse on this list, as it’s known for its (Oprah-approved) grilled cheese and huge wine list, but the restaurant has some interesting house cocktails, including its margarita. The rose margarita ($8) includes espolon blanco, hibiscus, lemon, lime and cointreau, and would be a refreshing drink on a hot summer’s day. If you’re in the mood for a non-frozen cocktail, try the “Lover’s Quarrel” (corazon reposado tequila, lime, mint, raspberry, sugar, 18-year aged balsamic vinegar) or the “Boulevardier” (bulleit rye, campari, aperol, carpano antica, mole chocolate bitters). Cafe Muse is located in downtown Royal Oak, and both street parking and parking structures can be found nearby.
