We all know that the stresses that come from this time of year, including yard work, back-to-school problems and prepping for the holidays, can all be a major headache for many of Detroit's parents. Sometimes, to keep your sanity and for your children's sake, it's best to pack things up and get away for a day or two in order to maintain an even keel. Within the farm house at Spicers in Fenton, Michigan is a small but well-known winery known for its down-home attention to detail and flavors. The Spicers Carriage House Winery was founded by the Spicers Family and the Cartwright Family back in 2009, and in that short amount of time, these folks have found a way to create an amazing bottle of wine in a wonderful farm atmosphere. On Thursday, October 2, downtown Ann Arbor transforms into a wonderful array of beautiful art and a bountiful amount of craft beer. The A2 Art & Brew Festival is an annual celebration of one of the Mitten State's most creative and beer-enjoying cities, with plenty happening in and around the Ann Arbor Art Center. This pub crawl and art show gives adults a chance to enjoy some of Michigan's best local brews that nearby award-winning microbreweries have to offer. Tickets are on sale until the event, but prices will raise from $50 to $60 starting on September 29. Tickets include admission and six tasting tickets to use on the pub crawl.

Each year, during the first week of October, the city of Grand Haven, Michigan holds its annual Art Walk festival, promoting its downtown area and celebrating the best in local art. This year, on Sunday, October 4, the committee will hold the "Sunday On The Grand" celebration with a huge public art fair and downtown walk. Patrons can pick up some wonderful art by local artists and vote on certain pieces up for awards and prizes. The winners of the Art Fair will be announced later in the month of October, but there's still plenty to do in the meantime, including long walks by the stunning lake and scenic strolls through a small, rustic downtown in the fall.

On October 26, just in time for Halloween and on the year of its 313th birthday, the City of Detroit will host the third annual "All Things Detroit III" festival in the Eastern Market district. Featuring over 60 local Detroit business, from the longstanding traditional companies to the new start-ups looking to call the Motor City home, there will be a wealth of options available for parents to check out without having to worry about the children tagging along. This includes local Detroit beer companies and breweries and many restaurants, as well, hoping to win some new fans. It's the perfect time to learn more about one of the Midwest's oldest cities on one of its most historic birth years. Happy 313th birthday, Detroit!
