From the banks of Belle Isle to the urban grit of Hart Plaza, Detroit offers music fans some of the coolest venues to catch a show this summer. The performers who will take center stage represent all genres of music, illustrating the diversity of the industry and fans. Below are some of the best outdoor events in the Detroit area.

Kendrick Lamar was crowned the "New King of the West Coast " by the old monarchy, Dr. Dre and Snoop, and Lamar is on his way to fulfilling this proclamation. His debut album, "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City," burned up the charts at a steady pace since its 2012 release, propelling Lamar to gold status with its unconventional style and unparalleled artistry. Mainstays of the rap game clamored to work with Lamar, most notably Drake, Lil Wayne and Tech N9ne. Producer and dubstep superstar Steve Aoki will be the opening act on this tour. Aoki performs to crowds worldwide who come to see him work his magic on stage. He is the founder of the Dim Mak Records label.

Orion Music Festival and More will be held in Detroit. It will take place on Belle Isle, whose idyllic riverside setting will provide the backdrop for heavy metal veterans Metallica to perform to legions of fans. The festival features a mix of indie, hardcore, experimental, rock and punk, in addition to heavy metal. Over 30 bands will perform during the two-day extravaganza, with Metallica headlining the show both nights. This is Metallica's second year hosting this event; the inaugural festival was in New Jersey, where the numbers reached 30,000. An auto and motorcycle show, film festival, memorabilia museum and graffiti expo will occur in conjunction with the festival.

Mayhem Fest is one of the most anticipated metal festivals in North America. This festival covers the hardcore genre including death metal, heavy metal, industrial, heavy metal, thrash metal and more.
