Best Places For A Bonfire In Metro Detroit

There's little use in denying that one of the most pleasing smells and sights of the summer and fall months is a magnificent bonfire. Whether huddled with a small group around a tiny flame or parading around a massive open fire with numerous family and friends, a bonfire on a cool summer night can be like nothing else. Here are some of the best places to find a public, and more importantly, legal bonfire this warm season in the Metro Detroit area.

Throughout the summer, Wiard's Orchards in Ypsilanti holds so many different activities that you could fill a week or two just trying to take part in them all. But one of the orchard's most-popular activities are their fall bonfires that patrons can sign up to attend. Many public locations will not allow alcohol on the premises, especially near a bonfire, but Wiard's allows adults to have alcohol at their own private bonfires for those willing to be responsible. J. Webb Farm is a real working farm that has been owned and operated by the same family for seven generations within Monroe County, just south of Detroit. Starting at the beginning of September through the end of October, feel free to come on down to the farm for a large, free-for-all bonfire that welcomes anyone and everyone in the community nightly. Best of all? It's completely free! But if it is a more private setting you desire for you and your loved ones, groups may rent a private reserved area complete with their own bonfire, sheltered area and picnic tables. Farmer Charley's has so much more than just seasonal activities, with something available for almost any time of the year, and for any age. A very popular attraction at the farm is the ability to rent out your own private bonfire site, complete with available additions of fresh cider, donuts, hot chocolate or cappuccino, all available for pre-order with your reservation. A minimum of two hours is required for each reservation and prices start at $75 for your very own bonfire party. With everything from a country store, to a massive corn maze, to a barnyard play pen, you and your family will have a blast at the Three Cedars Farm in Northville Charter Township. Best of all are its 10 private bonfire areas where visitors can rent out their own private campground and for just $8 a person, which includes a hayride, a trip through the cornmaze and one bonfire site for the evening. There is a minimum of 30 people required, or the price of 30 will be charged, but the event is sure to please all those who attend. Looking to throw your own massive bonfire party with all of your friends or family for 20 or more people? The Sugarbush Farm's Evening Campfire Parties are just what you need. For just $11 per person (with a $220 minimum), you can hold your own four-hour-long bonfire and hayride party down at the Sugarbush Farm in Ypsilanti. The $220 minimum price covers 20 campers for four hours, as well as a 30-minute hayride through the farm. Options are from 6 to 10 p.m., 7 to 11 p.m. or 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., with each additional hour costing only $25 extra. The barn at Sugarbush burned down a couple of years back and they still haven't raised enough money to rebuild, but the proprietors of the farm are happy to build a bonfire and give a hay ride to any guests looking for some outdoor fun. You also might catch the good people of Sugarbush Farm at local elementary schools, teaching kids about livestock and farm life.
