Best Pumpkin Dishes In The Detroit Area

A quick look around the Detroit area has proven two things. Not many restaurants know what to do with a pumpkin or other squash, but those that do are about as creative and interesting as they get. One of the aspects that has tied these establishments together is that they all use different types of fall squash to cater to the vegetarian set. The first three on the list are geared towards vegetarian fare, but have no doubt, the meals they provide will satisfy any appetite. Here is a quick list of Detroit-area places where you can find a squash or two that will tantalize your taste buds.

The Inn Season Cafe
500 E. 4th St.
Royal Oak, MI 48067

www.theinnseasoncafe.comAt The Inn Season Cafe, you will find some of the best and most imaginative food around and one of those is autumn pasta salad with penne pasta, butternut squash and other fresh vegetables, all served on a bed of lettuce. The key here is the word fresh and at The Inn Season Cafe, the chefs use as much local produce as possible that is in season, hence the name of the restaurant. From the autumn pasta salad to a butternut ragout or a sweet potato soup, you will find a wide variety of seasonal dishes that are sure to include just about every fall flavor you can think of.Related: Best Mediterranean Cuisine In The Detroit Area
Seva Restaurant Detroit

www.sevarestaurant.comIf you are looking for a place in downtown Detroit to try out some of the most interesting food in the area, then Seva Restaurant is the place to go. One of the unique fall dishes being offered is a pumpkin walnut ravioli in a cashew sage cream sauce. And it does not stop there. At the Seva, which has a wine selection second to none, there is also a wine pairing for this dish, which happens to be Beauregard Muscadet.
Seva Restaurant Ann Arbor

www.sevarestaurant.comYes it is another Seva Restaurant, but it is the original Seva Restaurant in Ann Arbor where you will find a whole different menu and a fantastic use of pumpkin and butternut squash. As part of the Sunday brunch fare, pumpkin waffles make an appearance on the spread. These luscious creations are served with whipped cream, roasted pecans and Michigan-made maple syrup. But this is not the only squashy dish offered. Seva also makes a peanut-kale salad with kale, carrots, butternut squash and red peppers with a peanut-cider marinade. For a bigger meal, order the enchiladas calabaza with butternut squash, cream cheese, green onions, chilies, spicy tomato sauce, cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses and house-made corn chips.Related: Best Metro Detroit Bakeries For Birthday Cakes
Hong Hua Fine Chinese Dining
27925 Orchard Lake Road
Farmington Hills, MI 48334
(248) 489-2280
www.honghuafinedining.comEvery so often, a meal comes along that challenges everything you ever imagined about food. At Hong Hua, pumpkin takes on a whole new role. It is here that you will find pumpkin and chicken together and served in a 'phoenix nest.' You won't find it on the menu, but it is a specialty that the restaurant makes by request only and it is well worth asking for. Incorporating all the tastes of classic Chinese foods, this meal contains chunks of pumpkin and chicken breast which are then stir fried along with onions and red peppers. It is then combined with a brown garlic sauce and served in a crunchy phoenix nest. Hong Hua takes pumpkin to a whole new level by delivering a meal that cannot be matched anywhere in the area.
