There really is nothing quite as lovely for a family as getting out for a fun event around the city after a long winter hidden away indoors. And Detroit is one of those cities that knows how to shake off the winter doldrums faster than most, with this year proving to be no exception. All around Metro Detroit, families can find a whole host of great activities, festivals and other cool spring events to take part in to break out of those winter blues. Celebrating its third year in the Detroit area, the Midwest Media Expo will be taking place once again in the heart of nearby Dearborn. For those who are familiar with the highly popular Comic Cons, the Midwest Media Expo should come as no real surprise to you. What the MME looks to celebrate are not only comics, but media of all sorts, including videos games, film and television too. Anything that is at the forefront of pop culture is fair game, and the experience is always a fun one for kids and families alike.

For those families looking for a good time in the downtown area and wanting to take their kids to a Detroit Tigers baseball game, this year is a perfect time to do so! Spring spent at Comerica Park is unlike anywhere else in the Motor City. And each and every Sunday is Kids Day at the home of the Tigers. Children can ride the Big Cat Ferris Wheel for free and get discounts on batting cages, and parents can even have their kids (14 and under) run around the bases on the field after each Sunday home game! This weekly event is an awesome thrill for any young Tigers fan and a great day out in Detroit during the season.

For all those families who have fostered a love for the Beatles over the years, the Henry Ford Museum has one of the coolest spring events of 2016. Starting in late April, the Magical History Tour will be coming to show off some of the rarest and most spectacular Beatles memorabilia and gear. Items being showcased include original instruments and gear, the actual "break up letter" that John typed to Paul's lawyer informing him of the band's end (signed by John, George and Ringo), as well as the album that once belonged to Lennon's killer and was signed by John himself just hours before his death.
