Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan or just a fan of the veggie burger, consult this list to find the best in the Metro area.

Uptown Grille, located on Maple between Haggerty Road and M-5, offers a California veggie burger that includes "a veggie patty with sliced avocados, gorgonzola cheese and pesto sauce." The sandwich also comes with kettle chips, or for a dollar extra, you can substitute sides such as sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, onion rings or pasta salad. Uptown Grille offers great happy hour specials, too, so make sure to check those out when you visit – everything from buy-one-get-one half-off pizzas on Mondays to half-off all drinks on Sundays from 8 p.m. to midnight.

You can find the Cass Cafe near Wayne State University, and it's known for its vegetarian options. Most of its sandwiches are vegetarian, not including the wild salmon BLT and turkey and steak burgers, and the house specialty is the cafe lentil burger. The veggie burger includes "lentils, walnuts, Parmesan cheese and other ingredients on an onion roll with tomato, spinach and a side of honey mustard." The cafe also showcases artwork from local and national artists for you to enjoy as you dine.

Seva is possibly best known for its downtown Ann Arbor location, but it recently opened a downtown Detroit location as well. This is the place to go if you want choices for your veggie burger as it has everything from mushroom sliders to tempeh or portobello burgers to a reuben sandwich, all of which are served with your choice of French fries or yam fries. Seva also does happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at its Detroit location, with small plate appetizers and drink specials, and brunch specials on Sundays from opening to 3 p.m. There's also a kids' menu and a gluten-free menu.

Inn Season Cafe

Inn Season Cafe is tucked away on 4th Street, a few blocks away from Main, and specializes in vegetarian and vegan cuisine. This is another place to go if you want choices for your burger, as it offers two variations of tempeh burgers, a portobello burger and a "Fourth Street Burger," which includes a "house-made multigrain patty" served on a whole-grain bun. The patty is made up of oats, lentils, brown rice, millet, cracked wheat, cornmeal, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds, and you can also choose to add vegan Daiya cheese or regular cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato to the sandwich. All of the burgers come with coleslaw, blue corn chips and your choice of sauce as well.

Honest John's is located in Midtown and boasts an interesting selection of vegetarian dishes, including veggie burgers. Choose from a standard "garden vegetable patty" burger or a "spicy vegan black bean patty," and check out its other options too. These range from the "Pocket O'Joy" (hummus, fresh spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes and feta cheese in a pita) to its vegan "Black Bean" quesadilla, and more. Honest John's also serves food until 2 a.m. every day, which is great if you want a late-night snack. Honest John's even offers vegetarian chili cheese fries (with veggie chili) for those wanting something more than just a veggie burger.
