Football and tailgating is basically a religion in southeastern Michigan. And we're spoiled because we have three home teams, with the Detroit Lions, Michigan Wolverines and MSU Spartans.  So whether you're at Eastern Market, hanging at the Big House or out in East Lansing, if you follow these Top 10 Tailgating Tips from Char-Broil, you're sure to have the best pre-game party in the lot!

Make A Checklist

A week ahead of time, list of everything you'll need for your tailgate. Food, drinks, utensils, games – think of every last detail. Your list might span several categories, depending on how big your party will be.
Enlist The Help Of Friends

Now that your list is together, agree upon who is in charge of what. It's a lot of work to get a great tailgate together so make sure all participants have a task.
Plan Your Recipes

Decide on a menu. Does your crew want burgers? Brats? Wings? All of the above and more? Pick items that everyone likes and that will be simple to grill in the parking lot.
Pack Your Gear

Pack food in separate coolers from drinks and pack dry goods in a hard plastic container. Don't forget to bring paper towels, trash bags and other items that will keep your crew clean and organized when handling food.
Choose Your Grill

First determine if you prefer to cook on gas, electric or charcoal. No matter what your preference is, you can find a portable grill for as affordable as $30.
Prep The Night Before

Gather and pack all of your chairs, coolers, tents, grills and grilling appliances together the night before. Prep as much of the food as possible the night before. Slice onions and peppers, marinate meat, and make sure you'll be able to roll out of bed and to the stadium on game day.
Rep Your Team

Wear team jerseys. Fly team banners. Decorate with balloons – the more outlandish your decorations are, the more team pride and fun your group will ooze. You may even attract fellow tailgaters and make some new friends.
Arrive Early And Get The Best Spot

The earlier you get there the more time you'll have to enjoy your tailgate. Even more importantly, getting there early will help you to park near the closest restrooms.
Enjoy A Post-Game Victory Meal

No need to battle traffic after the game. Wait it out with a hot snack off the grill instead of sitting in a line of honking cars.
Just Have Fun

Remember you're there for a good time, not to create work for yourself. Follow these tips and the fun will easily follow!
