The 10 Best Cities in Michigan By Movoto Real Estate

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – What’s Michigan’s best city? Everyone has an opinion. but let’s look at the facts.

Taking into consideration available amenities, cost of living, crime, education, employment, and home values, real estate research blog Movoto put together a list.

Researchers started with a list of the 50 most populous cities and townships in Michigan, then gave each city a rank from one to 50 in the individual criteria above based on the data — with one being the best possible score. Then, they averaged the criteria together for each city and gave it an overall Big Deal Score. The lower this number was, the higher the city ranked.

Coming in first was Midland, followed by Novi, Canton, Portage, Ann Arbor, Grand Blanc, Royal Oak, East Lansing and Farmington Hills. Troy and West Bloomfield tied for number 10.

Why look at Michigan?

“There’s a lot of people talking about Detroit right now … It’s a unique city and there’s a lot of opinions on it,” said Movoto spokesman Travis Sawrie. “Some people say it’s turning around; some say it’s going nowhere … We’ve never focused on Michigan before — so, we thought, why not?”

Multiple Motor City suburbs rank high on the list, with Detroit itself coming in dead last.
