College: Having The Talk

If you have a student entering 11th grade, this summer would be a good time to plan some ideas for the college search process.

By this time next year, application deadlines will be sneaking up, and there will be less time to think about the range of colleges and universities to apply to.

This summer, talking to your student about what type of institution he or she is interested in, such as university, community college, liberal arts colleges will help him or her narrow down the options.

It is also a good time to talk about possible geographic locations – in state, out of the state – and the financial consequences of each.
