SE Mich. Voters Pass SMART Millage
Did Michigan commuters make a SMART decision? Voters, Tuesday, easily approved the millage for the SMART bus system, only transit system serving much of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
SMART General Manager John Hertel said he's very pleased with the support.
"It's particularly gratifying, given the economic circumstances that we're all in. When you're asking people to renew a tax at this time, it's very pleasing to see that people have that much confidence and support for our system," he said.
Hertel said it's a necessity for seventy-percent of SMART riders, who use the system to get to work, as well as other riders including Seniors, students, and those with disabilities.
The millage is for two years in Oakland County, and four years for both Macomb and Wayne counties.
