State Cash Management System Receives Flawless Audit

East Lansing-based A.J. Boggs & Co. said that the project it managed to build a new cash management system for the state Department of Education has received a flawless audit from the state's auditor general.

Boggs officials said that for a new system that managed over $2 billion in payments and program funding, a result of no major audit findings is extraordinary.

MDE and the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget built CMS to streamline and improve its business processes to better support local school districts across Michigan. The project improved financial controls and customer service to better use federal and state funding and grant money.

"The State of Michigan now has a new payment process that improves cash flow for education agencies across Michigan," said Craig Thurman, assistant director of MDE's Office of Financial Management and manager of the CMS. "It helps agencies review and manage their reimbursements, program funding, and budgets across fiscal years to avoid recapture of federal funds and save administrative costs. The new system surpassed all of the state's audit requirements without any findings, which demonstrates how the hard work of our team has created a solid system."

Stacie Dubie of Agate Software, www.agatesoftware.com, led the software development team, Louis Burgess, MDE supervisor for grants administration and coordination, was project director, and William A. Maas of A.J. Boggs & Co., www.ajboggs.com, was the project manager.
