Poll: Snyder Leads Bernero By 20%

A new poll shows Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder leading Democrat Virg Bernero by 22 percentage points.

The EPIC-MRA poll shows 51% said they'd back Snyder, while 29% supported Bernero. 20% were undecided.

Independents favored Snyder 50%-15%, with 35% undecided. Snyder leads by more than a 2-1 margin outside Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The poll of 600 likely voters was conducted Saturday to Monday for the Detroit Free Press, WXYZ, WJRT, WOOD and WILX.

The margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says the polls may change when both candidates begin advertising.

Republicans and Democrats will be holding their state conventions on Saturday.

Republicans will be selecting candidates for Secretary of State and Attorney General during their gathering in Lansing.

Bernero could name his running mate during the Democratic convention at Cobo Center in Detroit. Skubick says Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence is under consideration.

Both parties will also nominate candidates for university boards and the state Supreme Court.
