Detroit Firefighters Still Recovering

Three weeks after a burning building collapsed on them, four Detroit firefighters continue to struggle to regain their health.

Seven men were sent to Detroit hospitals with injuries following the fire. Three men remain in the hospital and more surgeries are planned.

Detroit Firefighters Association President Dan McNamara says the men were not burned but instead crushed when a wall fell on them. Most sustained severe, crushing injuries.

"Limestone caps, cinder blocks and bricks fell directly upon them," McNamara told WWJ's Marie Osborne. "Pretty much all of their bones in their bodies have been assaulted."

An October fund raiser is planned.

One man has been charged in what investigators call an arson for hire. Samson Wright is jailed without bond. He is due in federal court in October.
