Man Rescued After Holding Onto Cooler For Hours

A man whose boat capsized in Lake Huron early Monday was rescued after holding onto a floating cooler for nearly four hours.

The U.S. Coast Guard says a boat crew from Alpena rescued the man who was in 60-degree water without a life jacket. His boat capsized near Stoneport.

Another man who was on the boat swam to shore and called for help.

Search crews were notified around noon Monday. The boat crew located the man, who was showing signs of hypothermia and still holding onto the cooler, at about 2 p.m. The boater was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

The Coast Guard always urges boaters to wear life jackets at all times.
