Thousands of foreclosed homes in Wayne County are being auctioned off to the highest bidder.  But you have to get online, not in line, to see them.

Officials say the tax-foreclosed properties include 5,300 occupied homes and 4,600 rentals.

The number of properties is up 44 percent from last year.

Deputy Treasurer Terrence Keith tells WWJ the owners of theses houses up for bids haven’t paid property taxes in at least the past three years.

Keith said, because of what he calls the staggering number of foreclosures, officials have switched from a live auction to online bidding.

Opening bid on the homes is $500.
