Help Sought For Wounded Duck In Grand River

A duck found floating in the Grand River with an arrow sticking through it has one resident pleading for the west Michigan community's help to rescue it.

Kristen Uchtmann spotted the duck about 8:15 a.m. Friday near a fish ladder. She said the animal did not attempt to fly when it later moved to a slower portion of the river beneath I-96 in Grand Rapids.

The arrow appears to have entered the duck's lower breast area, and extends out the other side.

Uchtmann tells The Grand Rapids Press she felt "pretty awful'' after the discovery and found it disturbing that someone would shoot an arrow at a duck. She returned home and made calls seeking assistance in rescuing the wounded bird.

No one has offered to help.
