Mich. Sheriff's Deputy Revives Newborn Baby

A Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputy is being credited with saving the life of a newborn baby.

Deputy Andrew Holt, who works in Ypsilanti Township, was called to a home on Lake Crest Drive Saturday on a report of a home birth where the infant wasn't breathing.

A statement from the Sheriff's Department says Holt began gentle chest compressions after taking over for the midwife and after three to five minutes felt the baby had a pulse.

Ypsilanti Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance personnel arrived to render aid and take the child and mother to St. Joseph Hospital.

The baby is breathing on its own and is expected to make a full recovery.
