Upscale Salvation Army Store Opening

A new upscale Salvation Army Store is opening Friday morning in Canton. The store is on Joy Road at Morton Taylor and will occupy space that had been a Farmer Jack.

Salvation Army Major John Arens says the poor economy of the past couple years has actually had a positive impact on the selection of merchandise donated to The Salvation Army.

"Many of the recently received donations have come from very high-end homeowners having to give away many possessions in order to downsize", he said.

Arens says there will be two types of shoppers to the store. One will be those looking for bargains including some who will then resell the items. The others will be looking for low prices.

"The prices for the new items are generally priced at about 25% of the suggested retail price," Arens said. "So if there was an item there originally placed in one of the big retail chain you'll probably get it for a quarter on the dollar."

The store is fully stocked with designer clothing, shoes and handbags to quality housewares, furniture and collectibles, according to Arens.

The Salvation Army Family Stores support the organizations rehab facilities. These centers receive zero federal or state funding, and rely solely on the stores for financial support.
