Michigan Celebrates Veterans Day

Originally established to honor Americans who had served in World War I, Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11, the day World War I ended in 1918. Today, we celebrate with special events honoring veterans of all wars for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for our country.

AJ's Café of Ferndale presents Operation Shoulder to Shoulder Thursday November 11 from 8-11pm. An event to honor our police and fire force on this special Veterans Day pep rally celebration! There will be complimentary food & drink for all active and retired military, police and fire persons! A 'mug shot wall' photo op for $5 with all proceeds going to the Ferndale Police, music, speakers and fun for all ages!

FREE Donuts! This Veteran's Day, November 11th, Veterans are invited to visit their local Tim Hortons for a free donut, including the patriotic Star Spangled Donut.

Grace for Vets and Jax Kar Wash believe that it is important to remember those who have served our country and have designed a program to emphasize the importance of support for veterans. Veterans may visit any of Jax Kar Wash's 6 facilities in Oakland County, Thursday, November 11 to receive a complimentary car wash.

Last year Applebee's offered a free meal from a menu of 6 favorites including House Sirloin, Bacon Cheeseburger, Chicken Tenders Platter, Oriental Chicken Salad, Three-Cheese Chicken Penne, Fiesta Lime Chicken or Double Crunch Shrimp on Veteran's Day to all U.S. Veterans & active duty military, and served over 1 million meals nationwide. Vets can also take advantage of discounts at two big home goods stores. Both Lowes and Home Depot offer 10% off to veterans all year round!

On November 11th, the national charitable organization, Brides Across America will be celebrating Veterans Day along with Michigan's premier bridal salon, Antonio's Bridal and will be giving away free designer wedding gowns to military brides.

Participating bridal salons will be preparing a select number of gowns to be given away to qualifying brides on a first come first serve basis. Gowns are valued between $500 to $3,000 and range from size 4 to 22.

In order for brides to qualify, they must be engaged, be on active duty in the military, or have a fiancé on active duty in either Iraq or Afghanistan. All brides must show ID, copy of deployment papers, and orders or other qualifying proof. Military brides can visit Antonio's Bridal, 34631 Woodward Ave, Birmingham, Michigan, 248-645-6262.
