Business Resource Centers Created, Expanded

In its ongoing effort to assist residents looking to start their own business, The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center announced the creation of several new Business Resource Centers in Wayne, Oakland and Monroe Counties.

In order to develop a BRC, support is needed by a community partner such as a library, educational institution or economic development office to create a location where current and future small business owners can receive business assistance and advice as they plan their entrepreneurial venture.

Tools available in the BRCs include the latest computer technology, hardware and software addressing diverse business needs and a small business reference library of books and publications.

"The BRCs offer entrepreneurs and small businesses owners a place to find answers to their business questions," Richard King, regional director for the Southeastern Michigan Region.  "If the BRC does serve all of their needs, the entrepreneur may call the SBTDC for additional assistance."

The Southeastern Michigan region now has seven BRC's in operation including newly operating locations available:

* Dearborn Public Library (Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave.)
* Michigan Works (Downriver Community Conference in Southgate)
* Southfield Public Library (26300 Evergreen Road)
* Oakland County One Stop Shop (Oakland County Business Center in Waterford Township)
* Monroe Public Library (3700 S. Custer Road – opening January 2011.)

BRC's already in operation include Schoolcraft College in Livonia. To find out more about the MI-SBTDC services or the BRC's in your area contact the regional headquarters at (734) 487-0355.

The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center is a  statewide business assistance program that provides one-on-one counseling, training and research support for Michigan small businesses. MI-SBTDC Southeastern Region, serving Wayne, Oakland and Monroe counties is headquartered at the Eastern Michigan University College of Business in the Center for Entrepreneurship with full service locations at TechTown in Detroit, Schoolcraft College in Livonia, the Monroe Industrial Development Corporation and Oakland County Business Center.
