Consumers Energy Launches Web Site on Corporate Social Responsibility

Jackson-based Consumers Energy has launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility Web site at www.consumersenergy.com/responsibility to communicate the utility's environmental, economic and social impact in Michigan.

The new Web site provides a comprehensive overview of Consumers Energy, which will mark its 125th year in 2011.

The site highlights the pride the utility's 7,500 employees take in the company's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, corporate giving, job creation, safety and securing Michigan's energy future.

The home page features updates about the company's corporate social responsibility efforts and events as well as quick links to leading environmental issues. Video clips showcase the personal commitment that employees have to corporate social responsibility and also provide visitors with a "human face" of Consumers Energy.

"Consumers Energy and its employees are committed to providing excellent service to the company's 2.9 million customers," said David Mengebier, the utility's senior vice president of governmental and public affairs and its chief compliance officer. "Our employees are strongly committed to the well-being of Michigan and the thousands of communities we serve. We appreciate the opportunity to provide affordable and reliable energy every day, around the clock, for 6.5 million people. Our employees take seriously our 'Count on Us' corporate theme and will be emphasizing enhanced customer value going forward."

Mengebier said Consumers "created this Web site to be a new tool for us to share information about our company, the work we do, and the positive impact that we have on Michigan. Bringing this information together into a single, easily accessible Web site signals our commitment to openly sharing information with a wide range of important stakeholders about who we are and what we do."

The Web site incorporates guidelines developed by the Global Reporting Initiative, an international, multi-stakeholder, network-based organization. It provides a comprehensive sustainability framework and consists of indicators and principles companies can use to measure their environmental, social and economic performance.

Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
