One Killed In I-75 Crash

A horrible crash shut down southbound I-75 Wednesday morning in southwest Detroit.

Police say a charter bus was southbound on I-75 between Clark and Livernois about 1 a.m. when, apparently, a car from a side street somehow went out of control, went across the southbound service drive, through the chain link fence, over the embankment and into the right side windows of this bus.

The car's driver was killed in the crash.

WWJ's Ron Dewey spoke with Mike Haddad, another bus driver, who said he saw the aftermath as he arrived at the scene.

"The car was hanging ... through the windows. You could just see the back of the car and they just pulled it out," Haddad said.

The charter bus is with Trinity Bus Company. According to Haddad, he believes it may have been heading back to the yard in Wyandotte.

The bus was empty at the time, except for the bus driver. Several hours after the accident, the bus was still lying on its left side, against the median. The smashed-up car was next to it.

The bus driver was taken to an area hospital suffering from unknown injuries.

Southbound I-75 past Clark was closed for most of the morning, but reopened at 9 a.m.
