Increased Sales Expected For Holiday Season

Michigan retailers should be ringing in the holiday season with the sound of cash registers. Jim Hallan, President and CEO of the Michigan Retailers Association told WWJ that his members are expecting a 6-percent increase in sales over last year. This projection is better than the national average.

Electronic gadgets will likely drive the boost in sales.

"Almost on a monthly basis, there's a new electronic device or app that's created, and that created enthusiasm among the buying public," he said.

Another good sign for Michigan, is that seasonal hiring has been pretty good.

According to Hallan, "we've had three good months of sales, the staffing will be there, there are good buys out there for the consumers, prices are competitive, and there's a good mix of products, and I think we're off to a really good start."
