DSO To Announce New Schedule As Strike Continues

With a musicians strike nearing two months, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is expected to release an updated schedule of concerts on Tuesday.

Several previous concerts have been cancelled as management and the musicians try to reach a new contract deal.

The two sides met with a federal mediator for several hours last week. Both sides issued releases, with management saying it increased its total compensation package by $1 million to $34 million during the three-year contract. The musicians say they countered with $38 dollars, which is million-dollar decrease from their previous proposal.

Management declared an impasse September first and began implementing a 33 percent base pay cut for orchestra veterans.  Musicians have offered a 22 percent reduction in the first year.

Musicians have been on the picket line since October 4th.
