Aretha Franklin's Surgery A Success

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin underwent successful surgery Thursday, although no one was talking about the nature of the procedure.

A statement released Thursday evening and attributed to Franklin said the surgery "was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!"

The 68-year-old Franklin recently announced that she was canceling upcoming concerts and appearances through May because of health concerns.

On Wednesday, Detroit City Councilwoman Joann Watson and others gathered for the prayer vigil near the Spirit of Detroit statue. The 18-time Grammy winner wasn't there, but she released a statement thanking Detroit City Council and supporters, saying "all prayers are good."
