Musician Michelle Penn Hosts Local Charity Event

Indie Rock musician and Detroit native, Michelle Penn is teaming up with "Detroit 187" actress Erin Cummings, to host a benefit night for two local charities -- Fisher House and Mittens for Detroit.

Fisher House donates comfort homes, built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to their loved ones during stressful times. Mittens for Detroit, the brainchild of Cummings, is a community initiative that collects and distributes gloves and mittens for needy children and adults in Detroit.

Penn's new single "Welcome Me Home" spotlights U-S military soldiers serving overseas -- which is why she chose to support Fisher House.

Penn says "we're just trying to have people remember their own and help their own first; because if we don't whose going to?"

"Welcome me Home" is currently available on I-Tunes, Amazon and CDBaby for 99-cents. Twenty-five cents from every song purchase, goes directly to Fisher House. "Welcome Me Home" dog tag window decals are also available for purchase at www.welcomeMeHome.com.

The benefit takes place on Saturday December 11 at 7, at the Cadieux Cafe in Detroit. The cost is $5 and guests are asked to donate mittens and gloves for needy families.
