Crackdown on Drunk Driving Nabs Repeat Offender

A crackdown on drunk driving in Metro Detroit helps nab a man who could be facing his seventh drunk driving charge.  Troy Police Lieutenent Bob Redmond says two police vehicles saw a vehicle weaving on I-75 on Christmas Eve.

"They both activated their lights to stop the vehicle .  It continued driving for about two more miles before finally slowly pulling over to the shoulder .  They boxed it in and walked up to the vehicle and the guy would not even respond ..wouldn't look at em...sitting there dazed.  They opened the door tried talking to him some more..he wouldn't answer any questions.  He smelled heavily of intoxicants."

Redmond says the 56-year-old Clio man has six prior drunk driving convictions. He says he refused a breath test, so a blood test was administered .  They're awaiting those tests results, but Redmond says his driver's license was suspended.

With New Year's Eve just days away, he cautions you to get a cab if you're drinking and be cautious if you're the designated driver.
