Walsh College to Hold Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Meeting: An informational meeting regarding the 2011-2012 U.S. Department of Defense-funded scholarship for concentrated studies in information assurance at Walsh College will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Troy campus at 5 p.m. in Room 124. Nan Poulios, director of the Walsh College Information Assurance Center and associate professor, will facilitate the Jan. 12 meeting, focusing on the application process and eligibility. Apply now by visiting www.walshcollege.edu/IAscholarships, until Friday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. Individuals at least 18 years of age or older must be admitted to the Walsh Master of Science in Information Assurance program or another Walsh undergraduate or Walsh graduate program and specialize in information assurance. Students selected to participate in the program will be required to sign a written agreement obligating them to work for the Department of Defense as a civilian employee for one calendar year for each year of scholarship assistance received. They will also be required to serve in internship positions with the Department of Defense organization during the time they are receiving scholarship support. Scholarships are awarded based upon government funding and individual eligibility. The scholarships are expected to pay for the cost of tuition, fees, books, lab expenses, supplies and equipment as well as a stipend to cover room and board expenses. Disabled students may receive additional allowances. There are no allowances for dependents. Mobile Monday Detroit To Meet Again: Mobile Monday Detroit will hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 10. Presenters will focus on the opportunities for mobile apps in today's marketplace, how to develop a useful and effective mobile app, and highlights form the "Goin' Mobile" ethnographic study by Jacobs Media of Southfield. Jacobs Media is a media research, consulting and application development firm that has a special concentration on media and consumer products companies, including National Public Radio, VH1, Sylvan Learning Centers and CBS Radio.  Since November of 2010, its development division, jacApps, has become one of the world's largest developers of mobile apps with over 330 apps in the app stores, and over 5 million downloads. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Compuware headquarters, One Campus Martius in Detroit. Attendance is free, though space is limited and registration in advance is required.
