It's (Still) A Record!

The Guinness Book of World Records has come up with a final tally of how many people witnessed last month's "Big Chill at the Big House" outdoor hockey game at Michigan Stadium.

Guinness records manager Mike Janela has put the final figure at 104,173 for the December 11th game between Michigan and Michigan State.

While that's easily an all-time record for a hockey game, outdoors or indoors, it's a long way from the 113,411 Michigan officials said saw the game.  That would have been a record for any sporting event at an enclosed stadium.

Michigan routinely draws more than 104 thousand fans for U of M football games in Ann Arbor each fall.

Guinness counts paying customers only. That excludes thousands of concessions workers, maintenance crews and journalists, which may help account for the discrepency between the two attendance figures.

Michigan beat Michigan State in the game, 5-0.
