Alma Man Accused Of Sex Assaults On Teen Boys

MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) - A 55-year-old Alma man has been charged with having sex with two boys between the ages of 13 and 15.

Gratiot County Prosecutor Keith Kushion tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant that Richard Smith faces 12 counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of fourth-degree CSC, and a single count of gross indecency between males.

Smith also is charged with being a sexually delinquent person.

Police say the mother of one of the boys notified authorities after he told her about the assaults that happened between November 2008 and this month.

Authorities say Smith provided marijuana, alcohol and cigarettes to the underage boys.

Court officials said it's not immediately known if Smith had a lawyer.

A Feb. 4 preliminary exam is scheduled in Gratiot County District Court.
