Neighborhood Dispute Escalates Into Shooting

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - A Rochester Hills man remains hospitalized following a dispute with a neighbor that escalated into violence.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, two neighbors in the 2800 block of Grant Street got into an argument Monday afternoon over the property line of the two adjoining homes. A 56-year-old relative of one of the property owners accused the 49-year-old next door neighbor of storing his personal property over the property line.

The two continued arguing until the suspect sprayed the victim in the face with pepper spray. A struggle ensued and ended with the 49-year-old victim getting shot in the buttocks.

When deputies and a medical team arrived, the suspect was taken into custody. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was reported in critical condition following surgery.

Sheriff's deputies say the handgun used in the shooting was recovered. The suspect is being held in the Oakland County Jail.
