2 Alarm Fire Near State Fairgrounds
Detroit firefighters were battling a two-alarm fire near the State Fairgrounds Wednesday morning.
As of 7:30 a.m., the flames were still way above the roof line of the fire that took off about 4:30 this morning. The one-story, block-long warehouse at Charleston and Adelaide contains recyclables.
Fire Chief Ed Beeta told WWJ's Ron Dewey that three ladder trucks were dumping water on the flames, being fed by discarded furniture and palettes.
"It started on the north side of the building ... and has extended across. We tried to stop it here; it jumped the wall. We're hoping to keep it out of this third building, but ... we're making progress with it," Beeta said.
Employees of an adjoining steel business, hoping the fire can be doused before it reaches their part of the building, say someone had started a fire at the north end of the warehouse to keep warm.
No injuries are reported.
