'White Stripes' Call It Quits

DETROIT (WWJ) The ground-breaking rock duo The White Stripes, which formed in Detroit in 1997, say it is splitting up and will make no new recordings or perform live.

WWJ's Greg Bowman tells us that Jack White and ex-wife Meg White have announced on their website that there are a myriad of reasons for the break-up but the main reason is to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band.

The Whites Stripes scored their first break-through hit when their song 'Fell In Love With A Girl' went into major rotation on MTV, their last recording for the band was the live-album, 'Under Great White Northern Lights', released in 2010.
