Thieves Targeting Fencing Near Bridge
DETROIT (WWJ) A growing problem on the city's southwest side, where thieves have been stealing metal fencing put up to keep people from going underneath the Rouge River bridge.
The problem has gotten so bad that M-DOT has been forced to cover the fencing with a sticky substance to deter the crooks but that hasn't worked.
WWJ's Mike Campbell spoke with area resident James Couzwic, "Just seen it one day then gone the next, as soon as they put it up they just take it right down, the economy is bad, people out here are trying to feed their families."
The fencing has been stolen at least twice and the thieves are apparently trying to sell it at nearby scrap yards.
MDOT is still investigating and looking for other solutions.
