Motown Winter Blast Kicks Off Friday!

DETROIT (WWJ) - This year's Motown Winter Blast kicked off Friday in downtown Detroit.

Visitors heading down Woodward Avenue on their way to the Winter Blast will get stopped right at Gratiot Avenue. It'll be necessary to shift left or right, and go over one block either way.

The 200-foot-tall snow slide is right at the confluence of Michigan, Lafayette and Griswold facing Campus Martius Park, which is where most of the activities go on this weekend.

Other activities include free ice skating courtesy of Charter One Bank, the GM Foundation Taste of Detroit, music on three stages, the Quicken Loans Ice Garden, free snowshoeing courtesy of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, figure skating demonstrations, and marshmallow roasting.

The event hours are: Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
