Medical Education Center Opening

Ross Medical Education Center, located in the K-Mart Plaza at 29429 John R. in Madison Heights, will host a grand opening on Thursday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Edward Swanson, Mayor of Madison Heights, is scheduled to be in attendance, along with other local officials. Ross will also take canned food donations for the Oakland County Shelter.

The event will celebrate several developments at Ross in the past year, including the launch of a dental assisting program, the remodeling of three classrooms, a new student center, and the expansion of the school, from 3,000 square feet to 7,000 square feet.

The Madison Heights campus serves 145 students and employs 12 faculty and 10 staff members. Programs of study include medical assisting, dental assisting, and medical insurance billing and office administration. The campus originally opened its doors in 2007 after relocating its Warren campus to Madison Heights.

"By hosting this grand opening, we want to introduce our facility and educational opportunities to the community," said Doreen Lang, Madison Heights Campus Director. "Prospective students that visit our campus will find that faculty and staff truly care about helping them prepare for a rewarding career in the allied healthcare field."

Hands-on experience is offered from the first day of class, using state-of-the-art equipment that one would find at a doctor or dentist's office. One such example is a newly-created simulation dental office that includes a working x-ray booth.

"We invest in our students by investing in the tools they'll need in the field," Lang said. "The goal is to create an environment that mirrors a medical setting."

Programs of study can be completed in as few as 30 weeks, in addition to an externship. Once these requirements are met, students receive a certificate of completion.

Interested applicants are welcome to meet with an admission representative at the grand opening, or any time during the day. The Madison Heights campus takes appointments Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. More at www.rossmedicaleducation.com.

Established in 1976, Ross has 19 locations throughout Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. All of its schools are accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, which is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education for the accreditation of private, postsecondary allied health education programs in the United States. Each Ross campus is also licensed by the state in which it is located.
