Federal Dollars Fund Oakland County Road Projects

NOVI (WWJ) - Some new road projects are getting the go ahead in Oakland County.

One is the resurfacing of Grand River in Novi, between Novi and Haggerty Roads.  Novi Public Service Director Rob Hayes said it's in bad shape.

"(We're) very excited. Our council and our residents are going to be really happy to find out that it will be funded this year," he said.

"It's going to be painful this summer, because we're also going to have Novi Road under construction south of Grand River to Ten Mile, and now this  stretch of Grand River under construction, so it's going to be a bit dicy at times, but I think the end result is going to be appreciated by everyone," Hayes said.

The county's Federal Aid Committee re-allocated nearly $18 million dollars for road projects.

Chairman David Evancoe said they will do a Walled Lake project in 2012 instead of 2013.  He said they were able to move up construction on Pontiac Trial at the Maple Road intersection, which he said has really deteriorated over the years.

Other big projects scheduled for 2011 include re-paving Grand River in Novi between Novi and Haggerty Roads and Crooks Road from Ban Moore to Fountain in Troy.
