New Health Care Center Breaks Ground In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit's southwest side gets a new health care center, near West Fort Street and Junction.

Community Health and Social Services Center (CHASS) on Fort St. is where officials broke ground on the site where the facility will stand.

The new site will be bigger and better.  The planned 48,000 sq. ft. facility will double the number of exam rooms and triple the number of health care providers and there will be a walking track inside.

"People, in particular women, are concerned about their safety when they walk.  So this will be available to them in the center during our open hours and they can come into the center and walk around," says CHASS CEO Ricardo Guzman.

"We are going to have 150 temporary construction jobs...and we are going to be able to hire 50 permanent workers to our staff," says Guzman.

The 17 million dollar center is expected to be completed by April 2012.
