Husband Sentenced To Life In Prison

PONTIAC (WWJ) - An Oakland County man is headed to prison for the rest of his life after he murdered his wife in their West Bloomfield home.

Forty-seven year-old Ellery Bennett received a mandatory life sentence with no parole, after being convicted of first degree murder in the August, 2010 stabbing death of his wife, Lisa.

Lisa Bennett was stabbed four times in her shoulder, back and neck.

According to prosecutors, Lisa Bennet had filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years just one week before the killing.

Bennett, who initially claimed he killed his wife in self-defense after she came at him with a knife, apologized to Lisa Bennett's family, saying he, too, also suffered from her loss.

Oakland County Circuit Judge Nanci Grant seemed unmoved by his apology. She told Bennett his wife wasn't "lost," and that he "took a knife and carved her up" as she slept.

In a previous trial, Lisa's mother, Doris Furcron, testified that her daughter lived in fear of Bennett, telling her that if her body turned up someplace, "Ellery did it."
