Republicans Retreat On Film Rally Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - A massive rally to protest Governor Snyder's proposal to cap the state's film incentives is getting a change in venue.  Anne Reedle, owner of Michigan Production Studios says 20,000 people were prepared to make the trek to Lansing on March 22.

But Republican lawmakers won't be there.  They plan to be on "retreat" at an undisclosed location.

"I don't know if the rally had anything to do with it, but I do know there has been a lot of discussion among legislators and the new house representatives, they are going through a learning process right now," says Reedle.

Keeble says the rally is still on but it will be held at Michigan Production Studios in Rochester Hills instead of the state capitol. Organizers hope to generate thousands of letters to lawmakers asking them to keep the film incentives intact.

"I feel that people are very attentive to this, Michigan people have enjoyed having the business around, the industry around, I think they are just looking to see how the best formulation going to come about to keep it around," Keeble says.
