Girl's Lie Turns Out To Be Costly Manpower Run

DETROIT (WWJ) -  At one point there were three fire trucks, 25 fire fighters and several Detroit Police officers and workers with Detroit Water and Sewerage Department  dispatched to the hoax.

Detroit Fire Commissioner Fred Wheeler says that a report of a child falling down a sewer was only a hoax. "Really it was the young ladies final confession that really bring us to the end of this operation," says Wheeler.

A second grader who attends an elementary school on the city's  eastside finally confessed saying she lied when she told authorities that her friend had fallen through an open manhole down into the sewer earlier Friday afternoon.

We do not know yet the consequences that the girl (whose name has not been released) or family could face but someone is getting a big lesson about lying this evening.
