Gov.'s Budget Cuts Would Severely Affect Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Elected officials in Detroit are trying to assess the financial impact on the city, should the state legislature approve Governor Rick Snyder's proposed cuts to tax credits and incentive programs.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Florence Walton reports the news was not good for the financially struggling city.
Many cities will feel the pain if the Governors proposed cuts in revenue sharing are approved. However, Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Gary Brown believes that Detroit's pain will be more severe.
"We have to try to put our arms around all of the Governor's budget that really is going to affect us. We're dealing with this one issue but then there's the revenue sharing issue and many more. And I think surely if you looked at the total, Detroit is going to be disproportionately affected," Brown said.
Members of the city Planning Commission and Economic Growth Corporation told Council that the propose cuts to tax credits and incentive programs could cripple major developmental projects already in the works in Detroit.
