More Orchestras Show Solidarity For DSO
DETROIT (WWJ) - Striking members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra are gaining more support from their colleagues all over the country.
Nine more orchestras in the nation have agreed to wear bracelets during performances in support of striking musicians of the DSO.
Members of the Chicago and San Francisco symphonies, plus orchestra members in Milwaukee, Louisville and Oregon will wear bracelets reading "AFM Solidarity." These members all belong to the American Federation of Musicians.
They will be joining members from the New York Philharmonic, Colorado Symphony, Minnesota and Philadelphia Orchestras and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., who have previously pledged to wear the bracelets.
DSO musicians have been on strike since October 4, 2010. They have offered to return to work while submitting unresolved issues to binding arbitration. However, there has been no music this season at Orchestra Hall.
